Coronavirus: a natural molecule being studied to treat and prevent infection by a Canadian medical team

Coronavirus traitement

In the race for anti-coronavirus vaccines and drugs, Quebec is leading the way with its research into a natural substance used in Nutritherapy to protect against ageing and DNA damage, and to prevent cardiovascular disease and cancer.

The Institut de Recherches Cliniques de Montréal is currently studying the effectiveness of Quercetin in treating and preventing the Coronavirus on 1,000 Chinese patients in Wuhan.

A natural substance that’s already been tried and tested

Quercetin or quercetol is a flavonoid present in plants as a secondary metabolite. It is found in large quantities in red onions, apple skins, red fruit, green tea and cabbage (especially raw broccoli). Quercetol is the most active of the flavonoids, and many medicinal plants owe their effectiveness to their high quercetol content.

Indeed, recent studies have already established the effect of flavonoids in inhibiting the replication of viruses such as SARS or Dengue, protecting DNA, and their antiviral potential[1].

The study focused on Houttuynia cordata (H. cordata) Thunb. (Saururaceae), a perennial herbaceous plant native to China which, like purslane, tends to be invasive. This plant is very rich in flavonoids, which have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, and has also been studied for its action against certain biofilms in the case of hospital-acquired diseases, for example[2].

Above all, quercetin is a powerful antioxidant, anti-histamine and bronchodilator that is used successfully in the treatment of allergic rhinitis and asthma.

The power of natural molecules

No wonder it has been selected as a candidate in the family of natural molecules against the coronavirus (and therefore cheap!) to manufacture medicines quickly, in quantity and at low cost! The IRCM and Dr Chrétien, a doctor and researcher at the institute who is supervising the study in question and the research, are also known for their work on the effects of the same plant substance against the Ebola and Zika viruses.

While we await the results of this study, which should be available in the next few days (WHO permitting…), we understand that, in addition to Quercetin, it is worth using a range of protective flavonoids to prevent and treat viruses such as the coronavirus, such as luteolin or EGCC from green tea.

However, let’s not panic, because as I said in my previous article, the greatest risks are for people with weakened immune systems and the elderly! Particular attention should be paid to the environment and health of these people. Of course, as with any virus or flu, we’d prefer not to be infected.

And in the event of infection, I suggest that you use the natural remedies listed below, which include essential oils (which need no introduction), quercetin and immune-boosting supplements:

Natural procotoles against viruses and coronavirus

Preventive treatment

Ravintsara or Saro essential oils: massage into the chest 3 or 4 times a day and into the upper back, or find them already blended at Pranârom in the Resistance and Natural Defences complex. Can also be used as a vapour to purify the air, or by applying a few drops to a small porous pebble or a handkerchief to take with you during the day.

Quercetin 500mg/day

Curative treatment

Essential oils of Ravintsara, Saro, Cinnamon and Oregano. A blend of the last two can be found in Pranârom’s Intestinal Health capsules. You can also take Ravintsara or Tea Tree essential oil at a rate of 2 drops 3 times a day on a neutral medium, in a little honey or olive oil for 7 days, then 2 times a day for 15 days.

Gemo-Vir (Blackcurrant, Alder, Sea Buckthorn bud macerate) 5 drops 3x/d for 10 days

Quercetin at a rate of 1g/day

And always, as a preventive as well as a curative measure, vitamin D at around 3000 IU/day, vitamin C at around 500 to 1,000 mg/day and plants that boost immunity.

It’s also worth taking herbal teas of thyme and rosemary, with lemon, ginger, thyme honey and cinnamon. They’ll also be great allies in getting you back on your feet quickly.
And I would also add the consumption of :

  • 2 cloves of raw garlic a day, whole or crushed, left in the mouth for several seconds, then chewed before swallowing.
  • all foods rich in quercetin and other flavonoids, such as the plants mentioned at the top of this article.

Take care of yourself!
